Five years ago, I was your average urban millenial professional. I carried a five-figure student loan balance, had a car payment, and often carried a credit card balance to fund my lifestyle. Sometimes I was afraid to check my bank balance for fear that I'd spent everything. I was stressed out, enslaved to my job, and felt like I couldn't breathe. All that, and I was making a very generous salary!
I viewed money like most people do: As a means to purchase the things I want, when I want them, when the money is available. Money came into my life each month with my paycheck, and if there was any left over, I told myself I wasn't living life to its fullest.
But then, something amazing happened. I started reading books about money. I learned about the power of having capital, the dangers of carrying debt, and the lifestyle you can suddenly afford when you're not stuck in the cycle of living paycheck to paycheck. Now I'm self-employed, work fewer hours to pay my bills, and have more time to spend on things that matter to me. I never fret about whether I can pay my bills next month; after all, there are so few of them now that I have no debt!
Years later, I've come to realize the knowledge I have now isn't commonplace. It took years of reading and analysis to come to the intimate understanding of my personal financial situation that I enjoy today.
Now I want to give back and help you live better by getting control of your money.
